Chapter 403
Ted couldn't quite explain it, but something about how brutal Matthew was scared him to his core.
Matthew couldn't care less about Ted's identity or background. No matter who Ted's parents or uncle were, he would lash out the moment he got upset. That was what made him so terrifying. Matthew coldly asked, "Who sent you to buy the medical literature from Renae?"
Taken aback, Ted exclaimed, "How do you know I was told to buy it?"
After Ted asked the question, Matthew's expression darkened, and his gaze turned even colder.
Upon seeing this, Ted hurriedly added, "It was a woman named Haley. I bumped into her at my friend's party in the bar. She mentioned that she had spent some time studying in Eastoria. "She works at an international library now, and her job is to collect books from around the world, particularly medical literature. Some of them are worth millions, or even billions, of dollars.
"I was desperate for money, so I asked for more details. She told me Renae had a medical book passed down in her family and that she tried to get it but failed. She promised to pay me 100 million dollars if I could get it for her." Haley? Matthew had no idea who Haley was, but he knew for certain that she worked for Eastorians.noveldrama
After a pause, he instructed, "Tell her you have the book and arrange a meeting with her. Ask her to bring the cash, and you'll bring the item."
Ted was in so much pain that he trembled nonstop. "Can you call 911 for me? My leg's killing me, and I can't take it anymore. I—"
Matthew raised the baseball bat again after just putting it down. Upon seeing this, Ted quickly cried out in fear, "I'll contact her right way! I swear!" With trembling hands, Ted pulled out his phone and fiddled with it. Then, he handed his phone to Matthew.
"Haley gave me an address and asked me to deliver the book there."
Matthew glanced at the phone and realized they'd be meeting at a spa. "What's your phone password? I'm taking it with me to find her."
After hesitating for a moment, Ted shared his phone password. "Eight ones."
All ones, and eight of them? Matthew frowned. It just didn't sound real.
Ted quickly explained, "I kept forgetting about my password, so I opted for one that I can remember. Ever since I set this as my phone password, I've never forgotten it. Try it if you don't believe me." Matthew entered the password, and it worked as expected. "Alright. Now get lost."
Ted's expression turned pale. "I've done everything you asked. Please don't kill me."
His words made the injured thugs behind him immediately stop groaning in pain, and they fixed their terrified gazes on Matthew.
Matthew furrowed his brows. "I didn't say I was going to kill you."
With a horrified look, Ted remarked, "My uncle is a district leader, so I know you're worried that I would tell him what happened.
"You're trying to get me to leave so you can kill me on my way back, aren't you? I swear I'm not going to tell him. Please spare my life. He won't hear any word about this."
Matthew shifted his gaze to Trevor. "Get them out of here."
Trevor looked at the injured men with broken limbs on the ground and asked with a troubled look, "How am I supposed to get them out of here?"
Feeling annoyed, Matthew
remarked, "You let them in without a
word and watched when the fight,
happened. I just ask you to clear
them out, and you can't even do
that. What's the point of keeping you around?"
Trevor's face twitched at the insult. He was an elite soldier, a legend among the many. But now, he was getting berated like he was a good-for-nothing.
With a hint of displeasure, he explained, "I can't raise my hand against my people. My duty is to point my gun against the outsiders."
Matthew twitched his mouth. Trevor had a valid point. If a soldier turned against their own, was he still a soldier?
With the thought in his mind, Matthew suddenly thought of Brad and recalled how Brad had asked him to eliminate some people.
Thinking that it was a perfect opportunity to make Brad take the blame, Matthew told Ted, "Didn't you say your uncle is a district leader? I guess I didn't mention my background.
"My boss is Brad Miles. You can go tell your uncle to settle things with him."
With that, Matthew leaned down, grabbed Ted by his hair, and dragged him out. A piercing scream rang out, echoing in the air.
Upon hearing Matthew's words, Trevor shook his head. Would a district leader dare to mess with Brad? If he heard Brad's name, he would be horrified.
Watching Matthew drag Ted
outside, Trevor felt it wasn't right to just stand there. So, Trevor went up to a guy with a broken leg, grabbed him by his hair like Matthew and started dragging him out.
Another piercing scream sounded, startling the birds on the roof to take flight. Upon seeing this, Ted's hired thugs were so terrified that they crawled out of the place in a panic.
Renae felt her skin crawl watching
this. Matthew and Trevor were absolutely ruthless. She couldn't
bear the sight, so turned away tonet
take her three-edged needles and filiform needles from the drawer.
After tucking them into her clothes, she just waited for Matthew to come back inside before walking up to him and saying, "I'll go with you to the spa."
What do you think?
