Chapter 597
"Even if you're up for it, you'll have to wait until your husband's back in fighting shape to satisfy you, hmm?" Everett teased, his large hand resting on her lower back, giving it a playful rub. Selena rolled her eyes and swatted his hand away. "You go ahead and rest."
"You need some downtime too," Everett replied, gently tapping the dark circle under her eye. "How about a quick nap together?"
His tone might've sounded like he was asking, but he didn't wait for an answer, pulling her into his arms and settling them both on the couch. Even though it was a roomy couch, it felt snug with both of them on it. Selena found her back almost perfectly aligned with his body, like a couple of nesting spoons.
This kind of closeness always made her a bit uneasy. "It's too cramped with both of us. You sleep; I'll just crash on the hospital bed."
But Everett didn't seem to hear her, wrapping his arms around her even tighter. It was like he wanted to absorb her into himself.
Selena realized she couldn't wriggle free, so she reluctantly decided to go along with it. Worst case, she'd sneak away once he was asleep.
His warm breath brushed against the back of her neck, slightly damp and tickling, a constant reminder of his presence. Without meaning to, Selena's eyes wandered to the hospital bed where little Mateo was lying.
It was one thing to handle things when nothing was wrong, but having someone there when things went sideways made all the difference. With Everett around, it seemed like he could handle anything, even if the world was ending.
No matter how much she didn't want to admit it, it was true.
Selena thought she'd be too restless to sleep, but nestled in his arms, she slowly relaxed, her fears fading away as she closed her eyes.
The setting sun painted the sky with hues of pink and orange.
Alex quietly pushed the door open, stepping inside just as Everett's eyes snapped open. Even though he'd just woken up, his gaze was sharp and alert.
Alex was about to speak, but Everett gestured for silence, not wanting to wake Selena. He carefully moved her aside, stood up, and gently draped a small blanket over her. After a

casual sweep of his fingers through her hair, he motioned for Alex to
follow him outside.
In the hallway, Everett leaned against the wall, his tall frame relaxed but poised as he adjusted his cuffs.
Alex briefed him, "Mr. Everett, I've confirmed the identity of the teacher who saved the young master."
She paused, then continued, "Her surgery went well, and she's out of danger but she suffered serious burns. A large section of her back is damaged; it's basically disfigured."
"She just came around not long ago and is pretty shaken up. The doctor gave her a sedative, and she... wants to see you."
With that, she handed over the medical report. Everett took it, flipping through quickly, his dark eyes landing on the patient's name.
His gaze darkened slightly. "Alright, let's go see her."
Alex nodded. "Yes, sir."noveldrama
Everett, hands in his pockets, strode towards the VIP ward.
Inside the room, Yasmine lay on the bed, swathed in bandages, her face a shadow of despair. Yet, the instant she saw Everett, a spark lit up her dark eyes, and tears began to fall.
"Mr. Everett..."
