After the Secret Wedding Rise of My Queen

Chapter 299

Chapter 299 The Interrogation

The couple spoke in perfect harmony, their expressions so animated it was hard to tell they were lying.

Isabel pursed her lips and thought to herself that these two were truly experts at pretending. If she weren't here, she might have even believed them. "Since you lost her, why didn't you call the police?" Isabel asked.

"We did report this, but they never found her," the middle-aged woman sighed as she spoke.

"Ah, poor girl. When we brought her home, we meant to raise her as our daughter. We never thought something like this would happen. How tragic!"

The woman's voice faltered at the end, and she even let a few tears fall, her performance so convincing it could have fooled anyone.

The middle-aged man didn't miss a beat, his face showing deep sorrow.

The group had stopped doubting them, fully believing their words. "Leslie..." Richie murmured in a strained voice, his eyes bloodshot.

Isabel glanced at Richie, then turned her attention back to the couple.

"Really? Did you call the police? Well, in that case, why don't we go to the station together and check the records?" Isabel suggested, her voice calm but firm. As soon as Isabel spoke, the couple's faces drained of color, their expressions frozen in shock.

Xander and Richie, sharp as ever, noticed something off from their faces.

Isabel raised an eyebrow, a half-smile on her lips.

"What's wrong? You don't want to go? Or ... do you have something to hide?"

The couple stared at her, their eyes wide.

For some reason, Isabel's gaze felt like it could pierce right through them, sending a chill down their spines and making goosebumps rise on their skin. "Tell me! Where is Leslie?!" Richie growled, his voice low and urgent.

The couple, terrified, turned pale. They stammered, stepping back as they spoke, "I-it's true. She got lost!"

Isabel turned to Richie and asked,

"Why bother talking to them? They're

hiding something. Let's just take them straight to the station, and

we'll get the truth."

Richie nodded silently.

In a panic, the couple dropped to their knees.noveldrama

"Please don't take us to the police! We'll tell you everything, we'll tell you!" they begged.

"Back then... w-we..."

The words barely left their mouths, hesitant and faltering.

Isabel shrugged and warned, "If you're just going to waste our time, I think we should take you straight to the station."

As soon as Isabel said this, the couple stopped hesitating. They immediately began spilling the truth.

"When we went to the orphanage, we didn't want to adopt a child. We just wanted ... to find a pretty girl to sell."

Before the woman could even finish, Richie angrily kicked her to the ground.

"You! How dare you?!" Richie screamed, his eyes filled with fury.

Isabel had never seen Richie so enraged before.

"My Leslie... How could she have such bad luck? Her parents died in that fire, she barely escaped, and then she got so sick she forgot everything from her past. And now now she ends up with people like you?!" Richie cried out, his voice breaking with grief.

Ivana, unable to hold back her sorrow, started crying, tears streaming down her face.

It hurt so much!

All she felt was heartache, nothing but heartache!

"You're monsters! You're animals!" Samuel spat, unable to control his anger. "You're worse than animals!"

Samuel, who was the same age as Leslie, didn't remember much from when they were younger, but the one thing he did remember was Leslie always clinging onto his older brother.
