Warrior 223
RVN
just as we stond wondering if this bounty came from the remaining Elite families, we heard something that seemed like a low rising roar. Miro turned and looked out the window, then he cussed under his breath
Dominic looked out as well and turned to Healer Kwan,
“Well, do you have any secret ways out of this hospital?” He asked calmly,
I looked at Theon, confused. “What’s happening this time?”
He glanced at me, his lips set in a thin line. “Some people saw the bounty”
He didn’t need to finish his statement. I understood perfectly, It’s begun again.
Just like days past when Billie made almost everyone hate me, now the people don’t need anyone to hide behind. For the amount stated in the bounty, people would do anything
My heart began to hammer as I looked at everyone discussing strategies,
These people are about to risk their lives for me. Do I deserve it?
I have been at this war for so long, and many have lost their lives, I don’t think I am worth dying for.
“What’s wrong, Bunny?”
I blinked back the water in my eyes, and readjusted my hold around his neck and shoulders. “Nothing” I whispered. “I just feel this is all my fault?
“It’s not, you know?” Theon replied but how can I tell him that I know the truth? That deep down, I know I should not blame myself but I can’t seem to communicate that to my brain and heart. How can I tell him that I feel responsible for every death that has happened since this nonsensical war began and I feel I deserve to be punished for it?!
“I’m going to stop them.” Miro said, proceeding to leave the room but Dominic grabbed him by the arm to stop him.
“I know you are their King, but no matter how powerful you are, you can’t control all of them. The mental exhaustion could get you killed,”
Miro jerked his arm out of Dominic’s hold. “Why do you care?”
“I don’t.” Dominic straightened. “I care about my cousin though and I know your death will devastate her.”
Miro turned to me and when our eyes met, the anger in his gaze glimmered.
“Fine.” He muttered, “What do we do?”
“You all can follow through the back door but if you have a helicopter, there’s a landing pad on the roof.” Healer Kwan
chimed in.
Dominic pulled his phone out of his pocket. “Helicopter, it is.”
“What about my daughter?”
We all turned to look at the female nurse who had tried to kill me earlier. She stayed in a corner far away from all of us. The guilt eating me up inside intensified.
Just then, we heard a loud commotion somewhere outside and my heart dropped into my stomach. I even felt Theon’s hand tighten around me.
“The mob are trying to get through security. We need to move.”
“This way.” Healer Kwan said about to lead us out the door.
“WHAT ABOUT MY DAUGHTER?!” The nurse screamed this time and we all turned to look at her.
“We will find your daughter before the appointed time.” I stated but the woman didn’t look convinced.
“What if you don’t?” Her eyes shimmered with tears and my throat constricted.
“I will surrender myself.” I stated. “You have my word.”
Everyone looked at me.
“You will do no such thing!” Miro declared but I stayed silent.
I had no strength to argue. All I knew was that my conscience could not carry the death of a child.
I held on tight to Theon’s neck as he carried me up the elevators to the roof. As soon as the doors opened, we found a huge military helicopter waiting, with several men standing guard with guns in a neat row.
Theon, Miro, Dominic, EL and my mother made our way to the helicopter but just as we were about to enter, I saw one of the men raise his gun towards me.
“THEON!” I screamed and the moment he saw the gun aimed, he turned, shielding me with his back.
My body shuddered as soon as I felt the impact of the hit and I raised my eyes to see Theon grit his teeth in pain. Shortly after, a cry followed and when Theon turned around, I saw Dominic rip off the soldier’s head like it was nothing.
“GO!” He ordered and Theon rushed into the helicopter. Soon after, my mother and the rest followed but Miro and Healer Kwan didn’t.
“Why aren’t you coming?” My mother yelled to my mate as the bird lifted off.
“I am King of this Kingdom. It is my job to keep my men under control.” He said.
Suddenly, we heard pounding by the door and it seemed like a multitude of people were trying to break through. Miro turned to look at them, then his piercing green eyes landed on me.
“I love you.” He mindlinked and I tried to struggle out of Theon’s reach but he held me tight as tears streamed out of my eyes. Suddenly, someone’s body brushed by us and to my surprise, I saw my Uncle jump down from the helicopter with some of his men.
Miro stared at him in confusion.
“I don’t like seeing my cousin cry.” Dominic murmured and I breathe a sigh of relief.
Just as the helicopter took us away, an angry mob of people broke through the door and the last thing I saw was Miro and Dominic facing them like brothers.

སཾ,43,
I hardly had time to process that before feeling warm liquid soak through my top and that’s when I remembered Theon got
shot.
“My gods, how are you feeling?”
Theon’s face had gone pale but he gave me a wan smile, “I’m healing. Don’t worry about me.”
But I was already past the threshold of worrying. I was worried about everything.
Him? His brother? My uncle? My mom? The nurse’s daughter? Who else was going to die?
I looked down at the chaos happening in the parking lot of the hospital. People weren’t just fighting against security but also vandalising cars and setting fires. My heart plummeted when I saw someone throw a flaming bottle at a mutant, setting it on fire.
Tears burned my eyes again as I watched it thrash around in flames.
I knew the security weren’t ordered to kill anyone, otherwise most of these people would be dead and again it’s all my fault.
Maybe I should die.
Maybe the world will finally be at peace when Kathryn Tarrent–Ashmore is dead.
