The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn)

Chapter 177

"He can't save you! Evelyn, you're mine!"

Evelyn was his and only his. He wouldn't let her be with anyone else. No way would he let her stop loving him.

With those words hanging in the air, Charles leaned in and seized Evelyn's lips with a fierce kiss, determined to never hear Brooks' name from her lips again. Her mouth was only meant to call his name. "Mmm!" Evelyn fought back with all her might, but Charles only deepened the kiss!

Outside, Brooks' face was like ice. His eyes shadowed with anger. Half an hour ago, an anonymous tip-off had him speeding over, warning him that Charles was downstairs at Evelyn's place. Without a second thought, he raced over, worried sick that Charles might be harassing Evelyn.

From afar, he spotted Charles' car. In the dim light, he could see it shaking ever so slightly. The meaning was clear. Recalling the call he'd received, Brooks rushed over to the car. It was obviously modified, with top-notch soundproofing, but as he got closer, faint sounds reached him. They were so quiet you'd miss them if you weren't paying attention. But the night was still, and he knew Evelyn's voice by heart. She was struggling.

So, Brooks didn't think twice before smashing the window to intervene. But whatever was happening inside didn't stop.noveldrama

Brooks' face was as hard as stone.

He quickly walked back to his car, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and strode back to Charles' car. With full force, he slammed the extinguisher against the window. Although Brooks was usually the picture of politeness, his upbringing in a wealthy family meant he had been trained in self-defense from an early age, just like Charles.

The glass shattered and splintered into pieces.

The side he smashed was where Evelyn lay. As the glass broke, Charles' face turned pale. Instinctively, he pulled Evelyn into his arms, grabbed his coat from the side, wrapped her up, and turned his back to shield her. Glass shards rained down on his bare back, piercing his skin. Blood trickled

down.

In that brief moment, Brooks reached through the broken window, unlocked the door, and flung it open. Charles didn't pay attention to the commotion behind him; his eyes stayed on Evelyn. He'd shielded her as quickly as possible, but he couldn't be sure she was unscathed by the glass.

His "Are you okay?" was stopped by

a slap across his face. Evelyn wrapped herself up tighter, one hand gripping her clothes, eyes blazing with anger. She thought of what just happened, raised her hand, and slapped Charles hard. If Brooks hadn't shown up to break the glass, Charles would have forced her to

have sex.

Not long ago, he'd publicly announced his engagement to Dahlia in front of the whole Jenkins family, giving her and Sandy a proper status. And now, here he was, doing this to her. Charles had crossed the line! Charles' eyes turned icy. "Evelyn!"

Just then, Brooks opened the car door and yanked Charles out. Before Charles could even steady himself, Brooks landed a furious punch square on his face.
