The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn)

Chapter 173

Charlie was gone, and once Evelyn became Charles' sister, any hope of her being with him faded away. It would have been seriously off-limits a total no-go.

Ever since Dahlia started dating Charles, this was the first time she had joined the Jenkins family for dinner. The thought that after today, she'd officially be Charles' girlfriend, then his fiancée, and eventually his wife, had her grinning from ear to ear. Rosa wasn't fond of Dahlia and opted out of dinner, choosing instead to take Evelyn back to her own place for a meal. Dahlia shrugged it off. She wondered how much longer Rosa could stick around.

After dinner with Rosa, Evelyn decided not to stay the night. Rosa arranged for a car to take her home. Evelyn didn't go through the main hall and caught a snippet of Charles talking as she passed by. "I'm planning to add Sandy to the family tree." Hearing this, Evelyn clenched her fists. Charlie was five, and Charles had never once considered putting her on the family tree. Did he really never see Charlie as his daughter?

"Hmm." Patrick didn't say a word against it. Evelyn's eyes turned icy. Did Sandy really deserve it? She didn't hang around and quickly made her exit. As she flitted past the door, Charles noticed her.

"Sandy is still waiting at home for you. Do you want me to drive you back?" Dahlia had been planning her night ever since dinner and was itching to leave. Charles offered, and she got up to bid Patrick goodbye, then linked her arm with Charles' as they headed out. They were officially together now, and tonight, she was set on having Charles stay. Charles had no excuse to turn her down anymore. As she thought about the evening, Dahlia felt a thrill of excitement.

The car sped towards Greenrose. Dahlia stole a look at Charles. Was he eager to spend the night with her too?

Charles didn't drive in but stopped just outside. The car doors unlocked. Dahlia was lost in her daydreams and didn't notice they hadn't gone in. Once the car halted and unlocked, she quickly opened the door and hopped out. As the door clicked shut, Dahlia saw the car start up again.

"Charles..."noveldrama

Dahlia paused, instinctively stepping forward. The window rolled down and Charles looked at her, saying, "I've got something else to handle and can't stay with Sandy tonight. Tell her to hit the hay early

Before Dahlia could respond, he drove off. Where was he heading this late?

...

The Jenkins family's driver dropped Evelyn at Maple Garden, stopping right at her building. "Thank you," Evelyn said as she got out and nodded to the driver. "You are welcome, Miss."

The driver was polite. Evelyn considered correcting him but let it slide, instead advising, "Drive safe."

The driver left and Evelyn turned to head inside. The lighting in the complex was dim, and initially, she didn't spot anything unusual. That was until an intense, piercing gaze cut through the night and her.

Swnded on

Evelyn knew Charles' stare all too well. Only then did she notice a Rolls-Royce Ghost parked a few steps away under the shadow of a tree. A tall, lean figure leaned against the car with a freshly lit cigarette between his long fingers.

Evelyn hadn't expected Charles to show up outside her place. She didn't want to engage, acted as if she hadn't seen him, and kept walking, hugging the road's edge.

"Miss?" Charles suddenly called out as she passed by. His tone was ambiguous, leaving her guessing whether it was sarcasm or something else.

Evelyn wasn't in the mood to respond and pretended not to hear and kept moving. Suddenly, her wrist was grabbed. Evelyn had braced herself, but Charles was too quick. She couldn't avoid his grasp. With one strong pull, he tugged Evelyn into his arms. Knowing she couldn't break free, she decided to shout, "Help!"

Charles' face darkened, not expecting her to yell. He quickly covered her mouth with his hand, opened the car door with the other, and forced Evelyn into the back seat, pinning her beneath him.
