Remarriage You 453
Chapter 453 Romantic Rivals
Delilah followed Isla's gaze. Noticing the latter was fixated on Harrietta, she introduced, "That's the child of the Chairman of Fuller Group. She's exceptionally bright and sensible, and you wouldn't believe how easy-going she is." Delilah showered Harrietta with praises.
There were a few kids in the garden who came from incredibly affluent families. However, they were either incompetent or had terrible tempers, bursting into tears at the drop of a hat.
Harrietta was transferred into the class midway through the term.
Typically, students who transferred schools were those who couldn't get along in their previous ones. Delilah had braced herself, ready to handle a proverbial ticking time bomb. She was awaiting the complaints that would surely come from the teacher of the preschool class.
Surprisingly, all the teachers seemed to adore Harrietta. Every time there was a class meeting, they never missed an opportunity to praise her.
Moreover, the child was polite. Every time she saw the principal, she would always greet the latter.
At that moment, Harrietta wasn't off playing with anyone. She noticed Delilah and made her way over to greet the latter, "Hello, Mdm. Delilah."
Harrietta's voice was cute and innocent, so much so that it almost melted Delilah's heart. "Hello, Hattie," she said, "why aren't you playing with your classmates?"
"I... I'll go do it right away."
Harrietta cast a peculiar glance at Isla, who was standing beside Delilah.
This woman is rather strange. Why is she staring at me?
"Wait." Isla called out to her.
Harrietta gave Isla a curious look. "Ma'am, do you need something from me?"
"I think you're incredibly adorable and want to give you a gift."
As she spoke, Isla pulled out a newly purchased keychain from her pocket. The keychain had a small, plush teddy bear attached to it, something that children would find delightful. "Here, this is for you," she said.
Harrietta gently declined, "Ma'am, I can't accept this. My father has always told me not to casually accept gifts from others. If there's anything I want, my dad will buy it for me."
In kindergarten, she had always referred to Zachary as her father.
"I'm giving this to you. Just take it."
"No, ma'am, I don't want it. Mdm. Delilah, I'm off to play now."
With that, Harrietta dashed off toward the slide.
The place was swarming with children, making it impossible for Isla to chase after Harrietta. Regrettably, she had no choice but to take her keychain back.
Delilah chuckled, "I appreciate your kind intentions, Ms. Isla, but this child won't accept things from others without reason."
During the weekend, Harrietta encountered Isla again at the Fuller residence.
That afternoon, Zachary brought Harrietta back to the Fuller residence for lunch.
A car was parked in front of the Fuller residence, and Zachary gave the unfamiliar license plate a glance.
He then led Harrietta inside.
Allison was seated in the living room, engaged in conversation with a lady who was sitting next to her.
Upon seeing Zachary and Harrietta enter, Allison revealed a gentle smile. "Zack, Hattie, you're back. Let me introduce you. This is Ms. Isla. Ms. Isla, this is my second grandson, Zachary. Hattie is currently under his care." Zachary's eyes were deep and intense as he fixed his gaze on Isla. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
Upon hearing Zachary's blunt tone, Isla retorted, "It's none of your business."
"Zack, do you know Ms. Isla?" Allison asked upon observing the situation.
"We can't really say we know each other. We've just crossed paths a few times."
"Come, Hattie, sit down next to me."
Allison beckoned Harrietta over, explaining, "Ms. Isla was sent by Tamara to visit me and Hattie. I was just about to call you, but you've already arrived with Hattie." Harrietta suddenly had an epiphany.
No wonder this lady seemed so odd at the kindergarten that day. It turns out she was there on Grandma's behalf to check on me.
"Send by Tamara?" Zachary repeated, his tone laced with skepticism.
"Indeed, I share a great relationship with Mdm. Fuller. If you don't believe me, give her a call!"
Isla declared matter-of-factly, "During my visit home this time, she asked me to check in on Allison and Hattie."
Zachary glanced up at her, but remained silent. His gaze was impossible to ignore, yet it was unclear what he was thinking.
Feeling self-conscious under his
scrutiny, Isla remain seated in defiance, deliberately averting her gaze. Turning to Harrietta, she asked, "Hattie, do you miss your grandmother?" en
After glancing at Zachary, Harrietta hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement.
"Zack." Allison cast a disapproving glance at Zachary.noveldrama
Isla was a guest who had come to visit her, and it was only right to give her due hospitality.
Zachary lowered his gaze, choosing not to say anything more. He took a seat on the single-seater couch nearby.
The housekeeper emerged from the
kitchen, listing a few dishes that
Zachary and Harrietta particularly enjoyed. Then she asked, "Ms, Isla,
what do you like to eat? I can prepare it for you."
Judging from the housekeeper's actions, it was clear Allison had decided to have Isla stay for lunch even before they arrived.
Isla had come under the pretext of visiting Allison and Harrietta. Now that Harrietta was here, it was even more difficult to ask Isla to leave.
Zachary cast a profound gaze at Isla, his eyes filled with mystery.
Isla felt restless, doing her best to ignore Zachary as she engaged in conversation with Allison and Harrietta.
Finally, she couldn't near to stay where she was any longer, and with a smile, she asked Allison, "Old Mrs. Fuller, can you tell me where the bathroom is?" "It's-"
Zachary interrupted Allison, "It's upstairs."
"Up... upstairs?" Isla's expression froze.
Allison was also puzzled as she looked at Zachary.
"Ah, the restroom on the ground floor is out of order, and we haven't had the chance to fix it yet. I'm afraid we'll have to trouble you to go upstairs." Allison was left dumbfounded.
When did the restroom on the ground floor break down? Why am I not aware of it?
Allison noticed that Zachary seemed somewhat displeased with Isla. Realizing that the latter wanted to speak with her privately, she didn't contradict him. "Alright... Alright."
Pursing her lips, Isla reluctantly got up and headed upstairs.
She then spent quite a while in the bathroom.
As she gazed at her reflection in the mirror, thoughts of Zachary's demeanor toward her filled her mind. For a fleeting moment, she considered giving up. Whenever she thought of Fay, she couldn't help but feel a sense of resentment.
What's so great about Fay? Why on earth would Zachary like her over me? How am I any lesser than her? refuse to accept it. Having come this far, I have no room to turn back Backing down would only mean admitting that Fay is superior to me. I'm absolutely not going to do that!
Isla kept encouraging herself non-stop.
Getting a grip of herself, Isla took a deep breath and opened the bathroom door. Suddenly, her steps faltered, her heart skipping a beat.
Zachary was standing a step away from the bathroom door, his gaze fixed on her with a piercing intensity. It seemed as if he could see through any secret she might have.
Isla gaped. "What... What are you doing here?"
"I came looking for you."
Looking into his deep-set eyes, Isla felt her heart pounding wildly. "Why do you want to see me..."
"I've been wondering." Zachary raised an eyebrow in question. "What's your intention for always being around me recently?"
"I... I came to help you," blurted out Isla, unable to contain her emotions.
"Help me?"
"Right, you have no idea. Fay is only with you for your money. She's nothing more than a gold digger..."
Zachary interrupted her, a smile that was closer to a smirk gracing his lips. "You know Fay? How did you two meet?"
What do you think?
