Remarriage You 437

Chapter 437 Was Lenora Too Harsh On Zachary

"No need," Lenora rejected outright, shouting toward the door.

Zachary, however, remained persistent. "I made your favorite pancake and yam and beans oatmeal."

"You can eat them yourself. Don't bother me," she snapped.

"Nora, can you please open the door? You wouldn't want me to keep knocking endlessly, would you?"

A vein pulsed on Lenora's forehead. She strode to the door, swung it open, and glared at him. "Zachary, what exactly do you want? I've already told you not to bother me anymore. Don't you understand?"noveldrama

Zachary stood there looking innocent, holding a food container in one hand and a phone in the other. "Nora, I'm sorry. I didn't know what else to do. Please, just listen to what Elijah has to say. I promise, once you hear him out, I'll leave and won't disturb you again." Lenora's heart tightened.

To avoid being exposed, she had already sent Elijah away. Yet, Zachary had somehow contacted him.

During her time in Fairlake, Elijah had been quietly watching over Lenora, and no one knew better than him that she didn't have a boyfriend.

What's more, Lenora was already aware that Elijah had been secretly protecting her, which indicated that she trusted Zachary's account of what had happened.

If Elijah had exposed her lie to Zachary, he wouldn't be reacting like this at all. So clearly, Elijah hadn't said anything. But why?

Feeling slightly relieved, Lenora raised her gaze to Zachary. "You swear you'll keep your word?"

"Of course."

Lenora took the phone from him and placed it against her ear. "Hello, Elijah?"

"It's me." Elijah's voice came through, the phone on speaker mode. "Lenora, you've misunderstood Zachary. Everything he told you is true. During your time in Fairlake, I've been watching over you the entire time. I know everywhere you've been and everything you've done. If you don't believe me, test me. Ask me anything, and I'll answer."

Lenora lowered her eyes, a flicker of surprise flashing in her gaze.

What's Elijah up to?

Still, his response worked in her favor, so she went along with it.

Pretending to ponder, she asked, "Then tell me, where was I on the first of July?"

"Let me think. If I remember correctly, you had just finished a photoshoot on the thirtieth of June. On the first of July, you stayed home all day editing pictures. You didn't get out of the house."

Lenora put on a surprised expression and tested him with another date.

Elijah answered effortlessly once again.

It was exactly as she'd expected, but she had to feign genuine shock.

Seeing Lenora's reaction, Zachary seemed convinced. He took the phone and said to Elijah, "Elijah, I'll call you later. Thanks."

He hung up, slipped the phone into his pocket, and looked at Lenora with bright, expectant eyes. "Nora, you believe me now, don't you?"

Lenora met his gaze calmly. "Alright, I believe you."

Zachary's lips curled into a small smile. He let out a subtle sigh of relief and started toward her apartment. "Let's have dinner together."

Lenora suddenly blocked his path, saying, "Wait."

"What is it, Nora? You believe me now, right?"

"I believe you. I believe that you distanced yourself from me for my safety. But that doesn't mean I've forgiven you," Lenora said with a faint smile.

Her tone was calm, her demeanor elegant, but her words cut deep. "You never trusted me. I don't like how self-righteous and domineering you are, Zachary. We're done. I've already moved on and have a new boyfriend. Out of respect for what you've done for me, I'll acknowledge you as someone important in my life. But please, don't interfere in my life anymore. I need to move on."

Zachary's expression froze, his face slowly turning pale, like a fragile sheet of white paper, ready to crumble at the slightest touch.

The light in his eyes faded, becoming dull and lifeless, like a stagnant pool with no bottom. His voice, barely audible, trembled with a hint of emotion. "Nora..."

You can't do this to me...

"You said you'd leave after I listened to Elijah. Go now," Lenora said, closing the door firmly.

Zachary stood frozen, his hand hovering mid-air. Clenching it weakly, he let it fall.

He stared at the closed door, his heart weighed down like a massive stone, suffocating him.

After closing the door, Lenora watched Zachary through the peephole. He stood there motionless, his entire figure radiating despair. After a long time, he finally turned and left, his retreating silhouette exuding loneliness and sorrow.

Lenora bit her lip, her heart clenching with guilt and sorrow.

Was I too harsh on him?

Thinking back to a few years ago, when she'd adored Zachary and chased after him, she wondered how she would've reacted if he'd said such words to her then. She would've been devastated, perhaps even to the point of despair or self-destruction. But Zachary had deceived her, causing her so much pain. She couldn't let him off so easily!

Meanwhile, Elijah hung up the phone with a sly grin.

A few days ago, Lenora had contacted him, informing him that Zachary was out of the detention center and would soon come looking for her. She assured Elijah that she could handle things on her end and instructed him to ensure Allison and Harrietta were safely sent back home, with Harrietta resuming her studies.

Elijah had intended to inform Zachary, but before he could, Zachary called him first, saying that Lenora had visited him at the detention center and mentioned she already had a new boyfriend abroad. Zachary then asked if it was true.

Elijah guessed Lenora had said it just to provoke Zachary. Hearing the tension in Zachary's voice, Elijah couldn't resist teasing him. "Seems like it's true," he replied.

Before Elijah could say more, Zachary abruptly hung up, clearly agitated.

Zachary clung to a sliver of hope, determined to see the truth for himself.

Elijah figured Zachary would realize the new boyfriend was a ruse once he arrived in Fairlake, so he didn't bother explaining further. He simply sent Zachary a message and left Fairlake.

For the past two days, all had been quiet.

Elijah assumed Zachary must have uncovered the truth by now.

Yet, just moments ago, Zachary called unexpectedly, asking Elijah to vouch for him to Lenora. Elijah was utterly baffled. Hadn't Lenora already pieced everything together? Why would she still need me to clarify anything? Zachary also mentioned meeting Lenora's so-called boyfriend-whom he deemed unworthy of her and even beating the guy up.

Elijah was stunned. When did Lenora get a boyfriend?

It didn't take long for Elijah to figure it out: Lenora must've staged the whole thing to rile Zachary up.

Elijah loved a good show, especially one where Zachary got the short end of the stick.

So, naturally, he played along, fully embracing his role in Lenora's scheme.

Now, Elijah could barely contain his amusement. He wished he could fly back to Fairlake right now, just to see Zachary's face!
